TWO ‘SINGULAR SENSATIONS’

One of Broadway’s Greatest Musicals, “A Chorus Line”,

Presented in Repertory with a Popular Newcomer, “Seussical”

Laguna Beach, CA - Gallimaufry Performing Arts produces a summer musical theatre repertory as it presents both A Chorus Line and Seussical (the Dr. Seuss musical) for South Orange County audiences. Both productions will be presented at the Artists’ Theatre in Laguna Beach and Clubhouse Three Auditorium in Laguna Woods giving South County audiences greater access to these great musicals. A Chorus Line will be presented Thursday through Saturday, August 4, 5 and 6 at 8:00 p.m. in Laguna Beach and Thursday through Saturday, August 11, 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Laguna Woods. Seussical will be presented Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7 at 2:00 p.m. in Laguna Beach and Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14 at 2:00 p.m. in Laguna Woods.

A Chorus Line, Michael Bennett’s 1975 tale of Broadway’s gypsies (the chorus dancers) picked up the Pulitzer Prize, the New York Drama Critics Award, and nine Tony Awards, and became the longest-running show in Broadway history. Marvin Hamlisch and Edward Kleban’s score includes the “Nothing,” “The Music and the Mirror,” “Dance: Ten, Looks: Three,” one of Broadway’s most famous ballads in “What I Did for Love,” as well as the ultimate high-kicking chorus number, “One.”

A Chorus Line is being produced and directed by company founder Steve Josephson, musically directed by Roxanna Ward and choreographed by Luis Avila.

“Luis has meticulously, and painstakingly recreated all the original Broadway choreography for our production,” says Josephson. He continues, “We're reaping the benefit of his recent portrayal of Paul in A Chorus Line for Director / Choreographer Baayork Lee, who was the original Connie Wong in the Broadway Production. So what our audiences will see is about as close to the original as it gets.”

Heading up Gallimaufry’s A Chorus Line ensemble is Broadway performer Juliet Fisher as Cassie. Ms. Fischer has appeared in the Broadway and National tour productions of Chicago, Kiss Me Kate, On the Town and A Christmas Carol as well as appearances at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall.

“We couldn’t ask for anyone better than Juliet to be starring as Cassie,” Josephson comments. “She has all the talent and experience to make the role everything it should be. Her dancing, singing and acting is the perfect combination. Just watching her rehearse ‘Music and the Mirror’ is spellbinding.”

Rounding out the production will be an eleven piece live orchestra under the musical direction of Roxanna Ward.

And just in case A Chorus Line isn’t enough summer entertainment for audiences, Gallimaufry Performing Arts is also serving up the superb new family musical Seussical.

“After all those years being stuck on a page, did you ever imagine you’d see me onstage?” So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat at the onset of the fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza, Seussical. Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, the award winning team who created Ragtime and Once on this Island, have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters. The score emerges as a Seussian gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk (all sung by Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, the Grinch and all of the Whos of Whoville) making this the perfect musical for the whole family.

Featured in this ensemble cast are Christian Marriner as the Cat in the Hat, Chloe Mansour as Jojo, Brian Drummy as Horton the Elephant, Carina Morales as Gertrude McFuzz, Karen Rymar and Christopher Spencer as Mr. & Mrs. Mayor of Whoville, Karina Parker as their daughter Cindy Lou Who, Brianna Krantz as the Sour Kangaroo, David Stoneman as General Ghengis Khan Schmitz and a special guest appearance by Pat Kollenda as the Grinch.

With ticket prices for A Chorus Line at $20 for Reserved General Seating and $15 for Seniors and Students, you won’t find more affordable entertainment. Tickets for Seussical are $18 for general admission and $12 for seniors and students. Special $10 tickets are available for the Clubhouse Three Performances for Leisure World residents.
